Privacy and the web

The Nurse Midwife Health Program Australia (NMHPA) collects information and data about people who use our website. This brings important legal and ethical responsibilities. Any personal information we hold about you is stored and processed in accordance with the Privacy Act 1998.  

This policy explains how we collect, store and use your information and data. We will review and update this policy when any relevant laws change or if we change how we do things.

Your information and data help us to understand what you are looking for from our program.

Storage of information and data  

We use the recommended industry standards to protect your information and data. The security of your information and data is important to us.  

Here are the steps we take: 

  • website protection measures (such as encryption, firewalls and anti-virus software)
  • access restrictions to computer systems (such as login and password protection)
  • restricted access to office premises
  • staff training and implementation of policies and procedures that cover access, storage and security of information 

Our service partners 

We use third-party service providers to process and store your data.  

 Here are the third-party providers we use:   

  • Mailchimp (The Rocket Science Group, LLC) - manages and sends emails for things you sign up to, like our newsletter
  • Google Analytics - analyses and reports on website usage
  • Microsoft - provides our email services and surveys 
  • Serversaurus - hosts our website
  • Craft CMS - the software (and associated add-ons) we use to manage our website content
  • SurveyMonkey - used to run our surveys

We will not share your personal information with any other third parties unless we have your permission or if the law requires us to. 

Third-party websites have privacy and security policies, which we encourage you to read before supplying your information. 

We do not control links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy or security practices of third-party websites. Third parties may be outside of Australia.  

Social media  

Our program records individual visits to our social media pages, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. This information is used for statistical purposes and to help improve our program. We may use statistical data within our reporting.  

This information will not be disclosed to any other government agency, organisation or individual unless we are required by law to do so.

Security measures 

We will take reasonable technical and organisational precautions to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of your information and data. 

It should be noted that data transmission over the internet is inherently insecure, and we cannot guarantee the security of data sent over the Internet. You are responsible for keeping your passwords and user details confidential.

In most instances, we will give you access to your personal information, although there are certain circumstances in which we will not provide such access in accordance with the Privacy Act.
